A safer alternative to formalin

What Is Healthy Hooves?

Healthy Hooves has been developed for modern farmers who need reliable, easy to use products that deliver consistent, effective results.

Our acid-based formula is antibiotic-free, fast acting, long lasting, and skin safe. Designed to be mixed with copper or zinc sulphate, Healthy Hooves helps maintain stable, effective footbaths.

By improving the solubility of copper/zinc sulphate, Healthy Hooves prevents precipitation and keeps the solution active for longer, even in the presence of manure and urine. In farm trials, Healthy Hooves has demonstrated effectiveness for up to 500 cow passes in a 200 litre bath and up to 800 sheep passes in a 100 litre bath.

Our footbath solutions are suitable for manual & automatic baths and spray systems. We also offer a handy small pack range designed for simple, practical application when caring for individual hooves.

How Often Should I Footbath Livestock?

It is important to follow the Healthy Hooves best practice protocol to support effective hoof health management in livestock.

Dairy cattle: Footbathing should be carried out as frequently as possible to ensure optimal control of hoof health challenges. As a minimum standard, we recommend footbathing with Healthy Hooves for a minimum of 10 milking’s per week for the first 3 weeks. Following this period, the frequency may be reduced to 6 milking’s per week. Where circumstances allow, more frequent footbathing is strongly encouraged.

Dry cows & young stock: Footbath at least once per week in a freshly made Healthy Hooves bath.

Sheep: When first introducing Healthy Hooves on farm we recommend, where possible, to footbath for 4 consecutive days. Following this period, footbath only when gathering before returning them to the field.

Beef cattle: We recommend footbathing in a Healthy Hooves bath for 2 consecutive days, repeat every 6-8 weeks.

Why Are Farmers Moving Away From Formalin?

A cleaner, safer approach to hoof care.

For years, formalin has been widely used in hoof care routines due to it’s low price point and being readily available as an industrial waste product. Many farmers are now looking for alternatives that fit modern day farming that are safer to handle and environmentally friendly.

Common concerns when using Formalin:
Significant risk to farmers health, livestock welfare, environmental concerns and unpleasant odours. Formaldehyde is classified as a known human carcinogen, it is highly toxic and can cause tissue irritation.

Why is Healthy Hooves a better choice?
Healthy Hooves is a farmer friendly alternative to formalin based products. Safer for you, the animal and the environment, our skin safe solutions are designed for easy handling and minimal mixing, making footbathing simpler and more practical for farm use.
